Hey!  I’m Max Sloane, a mystery-suspense-thriller writer who aspires to be as great and fantastic as J.K. Rowling.  I know she doesn’t write in my genre, but she really inspires me. 😉  I dream of seeing “New York Times Bestselling Author” printed on the cover of my books.  I want to see my work on bookshelves and online, but not for long – I do want them to sell.  More importantly, I want to be heard.

There’s so much going on in my head that needs to be on paper.  It must be read and devoured.  It has to come alive.  That might sound weird, but I believe my voice is in my writing and there are people who want to know what I have to say.

I started this blog in order to sharpen my skills as well as share some stories I’m working on.  I’m not the only one chasing a dream or doing what it takes to make it happen.  If you’re like me, I hope I can inspire you to pursue it.  Ignore the naysayers; they’re not your audience.  Ignore the negative self-talk; that’s just fear.  Jump over the hurdles.  Bust down the door, or create your own door.  No matter what, don’t live your life wishing or waiting.  Just do it.

What can you expect from me?  Stories.  Nothing but words, emotions, and possibly a cliff hanger or two.  Honestly, I like a good cliff hanger (especially when I’m not on the receiving end 😉 ), so you’ll definitely get a few of those.  You’ll see me in my element in addition to some uncomfortable territory.  You can thank my mentor for that.  She’s an author who takes her duties very seriously, giving me writing assignments and pushing me out of my comfort zone.  Even though you might see something that has nothing to do with mystery or suspense, I still hope you enjoy it.

In addition to my imagination, you’ll know what encourages me along with what helps block out the distractions.  I prefer complete silence, but interruptions do occur – barking dogs, DIY neighbors, cars zooming down the road, etc.  Hence the reason for music (or ear plugs).  Hopefully my playlist will give you a little insight into who I am and how my mind works.

I’ll also review books from different genres by well-known authors, plus some indie authors.  Part of this journey is to read, read, and read some more.  I believe this is one of the best ways for me to accomplish my goal along with strengthening my writing muscle.  Furthermore, it gives me a chance to learn from someone who’s already traveled down this road.

I don’t have a Fine Arts degree.  I didn’t take any creative writing classes.  I’m just a creative being who loves writing and believes strongly in my gift.  I’ve allowed fear, doubt, and a demanding 9-5 job that I loathed stand in the way of my purpose.  Not anymore.

I’m taking a huge leap of faith, trusting God to see me through it all.  I look forward to you joining me.  Thanks for stopping by.

By the way, I have “Somebody” by Emeli Sandé on repeat. 🙂
